Independence Day Address To The Nation

An Address To The Southern Cameroonians By Dr. Peter Forchu Chesami,

The National Chairman Of The Southern Cameroons National Council (SCNC) On The Occasion Of The 55th Independence Anniversary Of Southern Cameroons.

–  Your Graces, Arch Bishops and Bishops

of Southern Cameroons, and other Religious Leaders,

–  His Royal Highnesses,

–  Political Aspirants,

–  Fellow Southern Cameroonians,

–  Ladies and Gentlemen,

It behoves me in my humble capacity as the National Chairman of the Southern Cameroons National Council to address all of you, most loyal citizens of our Nation, the Southern Cameroons on the occasion of our 55th independence day anniversary.

Under normal circumstances, Southern Cameroonians would have been celebrating this day along with our neighbouring Nigeria with a lot of pomp and festivities but unfortunately for us, one single man from La Republique du Cameroun who calls himself the lion man has not only taken our territory hostage and our citizens, but has equally robbed us of our independence and sovereignty.

It would be recalled that our annexationists, La Republique du Cameroun that were colonized by France had her independence in the year 1960, without the Southern Cameroons and presented her map to the United Nations together with its flag green, red, yellow.

In the year 1961, precisely on the 11th of February, the United Nations pushed the Southern Cameroons that had had its autonomy as far back as 1954 with its well constituted government into a Plebiscite with two alternatives only, either to obtain independence by joining the Federal Republique of Nigeria or La Republique du Cameroun, not knowing that Southern Cameroons would lose her Government, her sovereignty and territory to La Republique du Cameroun. La Republique du Cameroun forced a Federation on the Southern Cameroons and swooped her troops into our territory and installed the heinous dictatorship on the Government and people of the British Southern Cameroons. Later on, she cunningly and treacherously dissolved both the Government and economic institutions of our Nation, the British Southern Cameroons.

Again, our educational system and legal systems have been robbed of heir originality with impunity.         Today, the story is the saddest in the history of mankind. The territory is being exploited and all its natural resources looted day and night including Sundays and impoverishing the citizens of Southern Cameroons who live in abject poverty and most of them die in misery, wide discrimination like the most heinous and deadly apartheid that once existed in South Africa now plagues the people of the British Southern Cameroons.

Southern Cameroonians live in fear; Nationalists of the Southern Cameroons who dare raise eyebrows to reclaim the restoration of their independence and sovereignty are very often arrested by the suppressive forces of our annexationists and tortured in cells, and fake charges to justify their diabolic actions.

The government of La Republique du Cameroun manifests open discrimination by not giving top ranking posts in key Ministries to Southern Cameroonians. The territory of the British Southern Cameroons is highly underdeveloped, its cities with untarred roads, the entire road network in the British Southern Cameroons is a sham.

Education in the British Southern Cameroons has no meaning as there are no industries and no jobs to absorb the educated. The only solace for Southern Cameroonian youths is to flee their country for greener pastures.

         The United Nations and the International Community is fully aware of our plight, that our country has been annexed by La Republique du Cameroun meaning international aggression. La Republique du Cameroun’s records on human rights violation in the territory of the British Southern Cameroons is skyrocketed. No freedom of speech, press is censored;

La Republique du Cameroun being a member country of the United Nations Organisation and African Union, ratified their Charters which forbid annexation and recolonisation, yet she does not honour the ratification of these charters.

The Southern Cameroons National Council that stands out distinctly as the mouth piece of all Southern Cameroonians, honours her motto which is “the force of argument and not the argument of force”.

Southern Cameroonians are very peaceful people on earth, docile, friendly, God-fearing and hard working. The people trust in God and Divine justice for their deliverance from the heinous tentacles of the Octopus.

The Southern Cameroons National Council states emphatically that La Republique du Cameroun does not believe in God and Divine justice else she would not annex the Southern Cameroons unto itself and treat its citizens so malignantly. The Southern Cameroons National Council dare to prophesize that what La Republique du Cameroun sows in darkness would receive commensurate rewards in darkness. She will reap as she sows!

The Southern Cameroons National Council (SCNC) calls on the United Nations of the world to quickly implement its decolonization programme on its former Trusteeship territory that was given half baked independence that gave La Republique du Cameroun the opportunity to recolonize us! Recolonisation is a crime to humanity.         The Southern Cameroons National Council (SCNC) makes an honest plea to the citizens of Southern Cameroons to stay calm and prayerful until God responds to our cry from the highest heaven.

In God alone we trust and in God alone we rely on for our hopes and aspirations for the restoration of our sovereignty and freedom. A well educated person should be conscious of his rights and must stoically defend his rights. There is no use to be educated if one would out of ignorance allow his inalienable rights to be swooped away by another.

Why should Southern Cameroonians in their numbers, soundly educated bundle their God given Nation to give to a single man at the expense of posterity?

This ought to be the universal pledge for every genuine Southern Cameroonian and patriot.

                   “On my honour

I pledge to defend, sacrifice, serve the fatherland

Southern Cameroons

Under the banner of SCNC

For the emergence of a God fearing Nation

A free and sovereign Southern Cameroons

Where justice, unity, love and

Democracy are guiding virtues,

So help me God”

It is a collective battle that needs serious and heart rending prayers.

Independence of Southern Cameroons

The UN General Assembly of April 19th, 1961 at 3:15 p.m. precisely granted half baked independence to the British Southern Cameroons that resulted to assimilation, annexation and recolonization by neighbouring La Republique du Cameroun. The UN General Assembly declared 1st October as Southern Cameroons independence day and that is why every 1st October the Government of La Republique du Cameroun deplores its numerous troops to patrol the territory and massively arrest any SCNC activists to be flogged and given fake charges in Courts that are controlled by those answerable to them.

Judgment of High Court Bamenda No. HCB 28/92.   * National and International rulings that have demanded that La Republique du Cameroun should withdraw its troops and administration from the territory of Southern Cameroons:

  1. Judgment of Military Tribunal Yaounde.
  2. Judgment delivered by the United Nations Committee on Civil and Political Rights (CCPR) of 17th December 2005.
  3. The restoration law enacted by the Parliament of La Republique du Cameroun No. 84/01.
  4. The Green Tree Accord.

With all of the above, the suppressive troops of La Republique du Cameroun have no legal rights of arresting, detaining and torturing SCNC activists in their own territory.

To end it all, to God be the highest glory! I vow to thee my country and in God alone we trust.

Long Live the British Southern Cameroons,

       Long Live Divine Justice,

Long Live the United Nations and World Peace.

Done at Buea, this day, 1st October 2016

Peter Forchu Chesami, Ph.D

National Chairman of the Southern

Cameroons National Council (SCNC)

I am a Cameroonian leaving in the United States and saddened by what is going on in Cameroon at the moment. I have spent a major part of my life learning the history of Cameroon and how Southern Cameroonians have been oppressed and suppressed.
Unfortunately, one of the things that I have come to understand is that we are not a United Front fighting for our rights. As long we have some “Southern Cameroonian” leaders liaising or collaborating with La Republic, it might be very challenging.
My hope is that Southern Cameroonians will do a peaceful demonstration to evade any casualties. We have already lost so many lives to this cause and we cannot afford losing young lives.
